Specialized in WALKING SAFARIS in Zimbabwe - Zambia - Tanzania
Walking safari
Walking Safaris are the ultimate in African experience. They allow for a flexibility and a closeness to the essence of Africa that is just not possible on any other type of Safari.
To follow a Matabele Tracker on the spoor of a Lion or a Black Rhino is to be transported back into the timeless tradition that is almost lost to the modern world. To approach a single Elephant on foot is worth a hundred sightings of elephant from the back of a vehicle. When you're afoot everything is of significance. Wind direction, terrain, vegetation and how the animals behaving.
To walk in Africa is to be part of Africa!
A walking safari can be adapted according to your wishes - whether you wish to walk just a few kilometres in a gentle pace from your lodge, or you might like to walk all day long and take lunch with you or maybe you might like to walk from camp to camp. Maybe you wish to explore a certain area or you might be interested in a particular animal.
At all times you will be guided by a well trained professional and armed guide. Most of our walking safaris are fully backed up by a vehicle which means you don't have to carry anything accept your personal items. And above all, they are not so intensive as they may sound like. Experience is not required you just have to be reasonably fit.
If you tell us your wishes, we will create an unforgetable safari for you.
Family safari
A family safari - parents/grandparents with children needs quite a different approach and careful planning than a traditional safari and particularly when young children are involved.
These safaris are fun for everyone but for children the experience needs to be a learning one in the most subtle and exciting way.
Children are full of energy and beside game drives, walking is an important way to let off some of their boundless energy. Safety is a very important matter and even more when young children are involved. Parents are the best judge to decide whether their children are ready for a safari and if they are capable of listening and obeying instructions. A necessity for all walking safaris.
Your professional and well trained personal guide John Stevens is a quiet and patient teacher who is never happier than when sharing his knowledge and passion for the bush. He loves explaining the habits of an elephant, identifying birds, teaching how to track a lion, as well as bush survival skills such as making string, lighting a fire (without matches), or finding water.
Canoeing safari
A real nature love should not miss out a canoeing safari, there is no place in Africa which can compete with the Lower Zambezi.
The canoe is the only means of transportation we find in this domain. The lush and gentle vegetation attracts all sorts of animals and birdlife. From your canoe you can observe the animals with their bewildered glances.
Because there are no rapids you can fully enjoy the rhythm and capriciousness of the river.
On the many island you can see large waterbirds wading through the shallow waters, elephants come to drink and sunbathing crocodiles. On the shores you see the traditional villages of the "Batonga People" who are willing to receive you with great hospitality so you can get a little impression of their daily lifes.
The spacious canoes are for two persons, sturdy and stable. You can choose from different sections and make a choice whether to spend the nights in spacious dome tents or comfortable tented camps provide with all facilities needed.
For families and those who do not feel like doing a full canoe trip, you can combine your canoeing with walks and game drives in the Mana Pools area.
Birding safari
A birding safari is a lot more than just observing. Most likely you will return as a fanatical bird expert.
The Luangwa Valley in Zambia and the Zambezi Valley in Zimbabwe are pre-eminently suitable for captivating bird safari's. Besides the many beautiful common birds, there are at different times of the year 'hot spots' where you can find the more rare birdspecies and migrants like the elusive African Pitta or the enormous groups of carmine bee-eaters.
In South Luangwa you can undertake together with an ornithologist and specialist professional guide an 4-night wildlife safari experience whilst enjoying the luxury and hospitality of Mfuwe Lodge inside the national park.
Enjoy drives in an open safari vehicle fitted out with spezialized sound equipment that allows you to listen to the amplified sounds of the bush via multi-user headphones.
Also the Zambezi Valley offers excellent birdwatching. Your guide is a bird enthusiast and will delight you with some of the very special birds that this area has to boast, including Pel's Fishing Owl, Night Herons, Spinetails, Narina Trogon, Western Banded Snake Eagle, Lilian's Love Birds and many others.
Game drive
All game drives are undertaken in open 4WD - no minibusses or trucks. During a game drive you will discover many different area's of the national park. Your guide will bring you as close to the wild animals as possible so you can take excellent pictures.
Most at the times game drives are combined with walking safaris and is advisable as when at times the animals have spread throughout the park you will be able to go deeper into the park to a drop off point and start your walk from there.
If you don't feel much for a walking safari you can undertake purely game drives, with your group or privately. You have different options from 2 or 3 times a day or a full day.
Flying and fly-in safari
Flying in a small plane with your own personal guide and pilot from one to another destination may seem like utter indulgence but sometimes it makes economic sense and can save you valuable time. Particularly when lodges are tucked away in a remote corner of the national parks and only accessible by small planes.
A fly-in safari means instead of using groundtransport for long distances, a qualified pilot with a small plane will fly you to your destination and from there you will be picked up by your local guide who will accompany you during your stay. This type of transport does shorten your travel time tremendously so that you can spend your time on that what you actually came for 'a great safari'.
There are 3 and 5 seathers and when travelling with a group you can fly against very reasonable prices.
Fishing safari
When you are a fanatic angler you can of course undertake a pure fishing safari but why not combine it with an adventurous wildlife safari. You will have undoubtedly a wonderful time!
Different safari lodges are situated on beautiful locations close to the lake or the rivier and offer besides game activities excellent fishing opportunities.
Whether you go fishing from the shore or with your guide in a speedboat, you will definitely enjoy and most of all catch great fish!
If you fancy a fishing holiday with a difference then Lake Kariba is a real recommendation. Lake Kariba is home to a diverse fish population and hiring a houseboat is a great when it comes to fishing expeditions, you have a dry, comfortable base, a tender to venture away from the boat and fish right up by the steep shoreline of the lake.
If you book a 'Safari Guide' with your houseboat you will be able to tie-up on the shores and venture on foot into the bush of the Matusadona National Park.
