BOOK YOUR TRIP EARLY
We prefer to use small and intimate accommodations, managed by local touroperators who support the local people and their environments - at the most remote and unique locations avoiding mass tourism. These exclusive accommodations are extremely popular and are booked up very quickly. Some of them can only accommodate up to 8 people. If you are interested in any safari that we offer we advise you to contact us early so we can make arrangements and be sure to fit in the accommodation of your choice into your itinerary.

Zimbabwe
Un unspoiled wilderness
Matusadona is a remote and rough territory on the banks of Lake Kariba. The National Park lies between the Umi River in the west and the Sanyati River in the east. Along the banks of the lake are many bays and little coves. The waterfront of Lake Kariba attracts a lot of grazing animals such as buffalos, zebras and antelopes and lion. Leopard, hyena and other predators occur in good numbers throughout the park. Here we find the largest lion population of the whole of Zimbabwe. One of the Matusadona’s most compelling features is its luxuriant bird life, over 240 species have been recorded in the Park. The fish eagle is common along the lakeshore where it makes use of the dead trees as nesting sites.

Matusadona National Park is one of several protected wildlife areas with shorelines on Lake Kariba. Because of this unique combination of pristine and rugged wilderness with the water frontage of Lake Kariba, you are also able to do some boat trips. You will navigate the dramatic shore line of Lake Kariba and the Matusadona National Park. From the boat it is possible to see animals resting in the shade of trees and gathering at the waterside for a swim and a drink. You will get a different perspective of the wildlife from the boat, from that which you get from the Landrover or on foot.

Besides the nearly impassable paths formed by animals, there are only two rough roads passable during the dry season and even then only with a 4wheel drive. The ancient dry riverbeds and gigantic Baobab Trees round up the picture. In fact one cannot miss out on Matusadona when visiting Zimbabwe.

These traditional safaris are done by foot or open vehicle. This means that you will not go into the bush by minibus or have to wait in a queue in order to get a glimpse of the game. A qualified and armed guide/hunter shall take you straight from the camp into the bush and as close to the animals as possible.

At all times you are accompanied by a professional armed guide and tracker. During your stay at a houseboat you will explore the wilderness by foot whilst staying in classic safari camps you can either do walking safaris and/or game drives. Boat journey's are usually taken in the afternoons. Anyone with a good health and reasonable condition can undertake these adventurous walks.

Musango Classic Safari camp

Musango Classic Safari Camp is situated on its own island, just off the shoreline of the Matusadona National Park. Musango Safari Camp is also an ornithologist's paradise with a myriad of birds to be seen frequenting the bird baths in front of the lodge and rooms. They offer more activities, with spectacular photographic opportunities, than any other camp on the lake. Musango boasts the highest ratio of guides to guests.

Excursions include walks into the Matusadona National Park, where they have an incredible success rate of locating the rare black rhino and the nearby Game Sanctuary, game viewing by boat along the many inlets and creeks, and casual canoe paddling up adjacent creeks where bird life is prolific and the scenery breathtaking. They also conduct dinosaur fossil and early stone-age site visits as well as specialised birding trips. Morning visits to the nearby village may also be arranged and are very popular. The Black Rhino orphanage, close to Musango, is well worth a visit. They offer fishing as well and all boats are fully equipped with tackle and bait.

Musango Safari Camp is an exclusive 16-bedded camp, ideal for a relaxing holiday. Under thatch, the large luxurious safari tents each have en-suite bathrooms built out of natural stone. The frontal verandahs offer panoramic views across the lake, of the Matusadona National Park and mountains. The swimming pool area and the bar / lounge platform offers an excellent place in which to relax and view game during the heat of the day.

Houseboating

Would you like to explore more of Matusadona and Lake Kariba and do you want to feel as if you are on a cruise-ship....book a Houseboat. These houseboats offer the luxury of a hotel with all the trimmings.
The program of the walking safari stays the same but because you travel on during the breaks, you tie up at different places along the water each time, to continue your walks from there. A most beautiful way to see the most of this unspoiled area.

There is a wide choice of Kariba Houseboats that sleep 4 to 40 people and all boats have a qualified captain & crew. Most boats have a sun deck and many have small pools for 'cooling off'. From budget to luxury we can help you. Have a look at this site Houseboating in Kariba.
