BOOK YOUR TRIP EARLY
We prefer to use small and intimate accommodations, managed by local touroperators who support the local people and their environments - at the most remote and unique locations avoiding mass tourism. These exclusive accommodations are extremely popular and are booked up very quickly. Some of them can only accommodate up to 8 people. If you are interested in any safari that we offer we advise you to contact us early so we can make arrangements and be sure to fit in the accommodation of your choice into your itinerary.

The starting point of your safari in Gombe and Mahale

Kigoma is the starting point of most of our safaris to Gombe and Mahale National Parks. The largest town on the shores of Lake Tanganyika, Kigoma is also the closest developed town to both parks and famous for its dagaa fishing and palm oil.

The local markets at kigoma are vibrant and humming with activity. Small crowded stalls are stocked with a great variety of goods - the sheets of fabrics worn by local woman are a perfect gift or souvenir.

Sightseeing is rewarding and extensive as Kigoma is also rich in history, being the place where Europe and America sent an emissary to trace the whereabouts of the great scientist, missionary and explorer, Dr. Livingstone. Surrounded by Lake Tanganyika on one side and scenic hills and valleys on the other, a tour of Kigoma town becomes an fascinating part of your Chimpanzee safari.

No tour of Kigoma is complete without visiting Katonga, a typical African fishing village. Your guide will lead you to spectacular displays of tropical fish, and along the way you'll discover more about the life of the local people, which has changed little over centuries.

Kigoma Hilltop Hotel
The Hilltop Hotel is the only luxury hotel in Kigoma, situated on an outcrop hill amid a lush green natural landscape and gardens, overlooking the crystal clear blue waters of Lake Tanganyika and the majestic mountains of Congo. Only 20-minutes drive from the airport, you will stay in a delightful colonial style cottage with a balcony overlooking the lake, an en-suite bathroom, hot and cold running water, satellite television and refrigerator

A gentle stroll through the extensive gardens will reveal an abundance of birdlife, while vervet monkeys are often seen swinging through the trees. There is a restaurant, a swimmingpool that boasts a spectacular view, a well equipped gym, a tennis courts and a private beach.
