BOOK YOUR TRIP EARLY
We prefer to use small and intimate accommodations, managed by local touroperators who support the local people and their environments - at the most remote and unique locations avoiding mass tourism.
These exclusive accommodations are extremely popular and are booked up very quickly. Some of them can only accommodate up to 8 people. If you are interested in any safari that we offer we advise you to contact us early so we can make arrangements and be sure to fit in the accommodation of your choice into your itinerary.
Katavi is the third largest national park in Tanzania, yet one of the least visited, meaning you can look forward to having this huge untouched wilderness to yourself.
Katavi offers wildlife in abundance. It boasts Tanzania's greatest concentration of crocodiles, Buffalo and Hippos.
Huge herds of Elephants, Roan Antelope, Topi, Zebras, Impalas, Eland, Waterbuck and more, make Katavi a haven for predators like Lion, Leopard, Cheetah and Wild Dogs. Birdlife at Lake Katavi, particularly in the wet season, is also abundant and includes Plovers, Sand grouse and the Spuring wing Goose.
The park's main geographical features are the watery plains in the north, the palm fringed seasonal Lake Chada to the south-east and the Katuma River.
These areas are particularly rich in wildlife - kaleidoscopes of birds flitt across the riverbanks, swamps and
palm groves, while pelicans cruise the lakes and elephants graze waistdeep in the marshlands.
Katavi is one of the few remaining areas where you most likely will meet more lions than people. The number of visitors is less than 100 a year.
If you think you have seen most of Africa then this is 'the place to be', wild and unspoiled!
Katuma Luxury Tented Camp
Katavi Camp is situated in the centre of the park, on an elevated point overlooking the vast plains of Katisunga. Herds of animals coming in search of fresh grazing grounds and water provide the perfect view right from your tent.
The camp consists of six spacious tents, where every minor detail has been addressed to ensure comfort and luxury. Each tent has an en-suite shower/toilet with hot and cold water, writing desk, lamps and fine linens.
Activities
Though there is plenty of wildlife at your doorstep, literally, we intend to give you the complete Katavi adventure experience that you leave having seen the best of what the park has to offer.
Game viewing is exceptionally rewarding at Katavi due to the sheer abundance of wildlife. Drives are taken in the morning and late afternoon and are centred across the woodland areas along the seasonal lakes of Chada and Katavi, where most of the game is found - including the big cats.
Because the camp is located at the heart of the park where there is the biggest concentration of animals, short guided walks are recommended. You are accompanied by armed rangers into some of the most spectacular sites in the park, allowing you to enjoy the unique tranquil bliss of being a part of nature.
For those who want to get even closer to nature, there is 'Fly Camping' - sleeping in the bush with just a mosquito net between you and the stars. With more than 4,000 sq km to explore, fly camping means that you can discover even the most and remote areas of this stunning park.
Katavi National Park is open throughout the year, but the best time to visit is May to October and December to Februari.
